Supply Chain

Jack O’Neill began designing and producing the world’s first neoprene wetsuits out of the world’s first surf shop - a humble garage off the Great Highway, San Francisco. While living, surfing and playing by Jack’s original vision, we are constantly looking to improve our supply chain with the long-term in mind.

We aim for fair working conditions for everyone in the O’Neill Europe supply chain. Our Code of Conduct is based on the ILO and the UN Declaration on Human Rights. It includes prohibitions on forced labour, child labour and discrimination. Additionally, it includes required standards for a good and safe working environment, compliance with national laws that exist in our production countries for human treatment and payment of minimum legal wages, working hours and benefits must be guaranteed. It is important that this work extends beyond annual audits. O’Neill takes in part of several Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives to improve working conditions for the people that make our collections.

Sustainability Pillars

01
TO MAKE BETTER PRODUCTS

O’Neill Blue products were designed for durability, circularity and a better future. That’s why we currently use 40% more sustainable materials across all O’Neill Blue garments.

02
TO IMPROVE OUR SUPPLY CHAIN

Our goal is to use a majority of sustainable production practices throughout the supply chain at O’Neill. We strive towards total compliance to our code of conduct and to have full visibility and transparency into our supply chain. The continued collaboration in multistakeholder projects remains a top priority to improve our value chain.

03
TO CHANGE HOW WE WORK

We move closer to better business practices by constantly improving internal training, ensuring forecasting precision and minimizing our footprint with every step.

04
TO GIVE BACK TO SOCIETY

In 1996, Jack O’Neill created the Sea Odyssey to educate students on the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with the sea and environment. To this day we are finding new ways to give back and follow Jack’s original legacy.

Packaging

Fashion retail won’t be able to eliminate packaging altogether because it's needed to protect product quality. That said, we already use a large portion of more sustainable materials in O'Neill Blue packaging. Below you can find our current breakdown as we move towards a more circular model.

ECOM BOXES:

100% recycled carton

ECOM BAGS:

80% recycled plastic

RETAIL shopping bags:

40% recycled plastic

POLYBAGS:
  • Single use polybag:
    50% recycled plastic
  • Reusable ziplock polybag for women's clothing, swim- and activewear:
    30% recycled plastic
  • Polybags for pinnacle products:
    100% recycled plastic

Transparency Pledge

At O’Neill Europe, we focus on building relationships with our suppliers based on honesty and mutual trust. In order to remain transparent, we disclose our supply chain to give customers and stakeholders the possibility to address issues in the supply chain, and improve working conditions. Sharing this information is important to us and provides a channel for others to alert when issues are observed in the factories where we produce. This is how we remain transparent with our partners and treat workers with respect.
